Streak Plate 2" x 1"
These 1" x 2" unglazed porcelain tiles are ideal for streak testing of mineral samples. The streak test is essential in mineral identification because the color of the streak left after rubbing the mineral on the tile is often very different than the color you see looking at the mineral. Hematite, a black or gray iron ore, has a red streak. Gold makes a gold streak, while pyrite or "fools gold" makes a black streak. No prospector should be without one of these.

Ultraviolet Lamp - Shortwave
This inexpensive mini UV lamp puts out the most important ultraviolet spectrum for prospectors - shortwave light. Minerals that respond to shortwave light are much more common than those that respond to longwave light. Nearly all fluorescent minerals have at least some response to shortwave light, and most have a strong response. Most commercial fluorescent ores are brightest under a shortwave lamp, the most important being scheelite, or tungsten ore. Carry strap included. Overall length 6.5 inches, lens 5/8" x 1-5/8". Uses 4 AA batteries (not included).
